From the Office of The President
by Dr. Kathleen A. Rose, Superintendent / President on May 14, 2021I hope you are staying healthy, have received a vaccine if you are able, and are looking forward to coming back on campus in the fall. As you know, we are increasing the number of on-ground sections this fall and are preparing the campus for your safe and secure return. Our Emergency Operations Center continues to meet each week and is in the final stages of finalizing the Return to Campus Plan for your review.
We will all have new responsibilities when returning to campus this fall and will need to follow the pre-screening and check in protocols that will help us track and identify students, staff and faculty while on campus. We also will continue to have testing available on campus and through the Allied Health department throughout the next academic year. Each protocol is designed to keep everyone safe, so please be patient and “do your homework” before coming to campus for class, meeting with your counselor or visiting the bookstore.
Things may look a little different when you return to campus, for example you will see that we have become somewhat of a nature preserve while you have been away! Turkeys, ducks, deer and many types of birds have enjoyed our beautiful campus while most of us have been away. We will need to share our learning environment with these creatures when we return.
As we complete the Spring 2021 semester, I would like to extend my congratulations to the class of 2021. We are proud of you and wish you well in the next chapter of your educational journey. Please be sure to participate in our virtual graduation ceremony and enjoy the pictures and stories of our graduates. At the end of the ceremony, I will virtually ask you to move your tassel from the right to the left, to signify the conferral of your degree or certificate. I hope you are able to celebrate safely with your family and friends, and that your memories of Gavilan College remain strong for many years to come. Have a great summer, take care and be well!
